Leonardo Soto leads ITI’s relationship with the Houston Symphony and serves as the primary steward of the festival’s instruments. He oversees timpani maintenance, including head changes and preparation prior to the intensive, and coordinates the transportation of instruments to the venue. Leonardo is also a core contributor to curriculum development and international faculty recruitment. As a faculty member, he teaches two masterclasses, bringing deep professional insight and artistic leadership to ITI.

Matthew Strauss oversees all aspects of ITI’s operations at Rice University, where the intensive is hosted. He plays a central role in curriculum planning, artist contracting, and student communication, ensuring a smooth and organized experience for faculty and participants alike. As an ITI Resident Faculty member, Matthew teaches two classes and offers private lessons during the intensive. He also manages key on-site logistics, including catering and daily operations, helping ensure ITI runs seamlessly from start to finish.

Joshua Vonderheide co-founded ITI and was instrumental in shaping its vision, strategy, and public identity. He designed the ITI logo and website, produced all early photography, and created foundational business and branding materials. As marketing lead, Joshua built ITI’s social media presence from launch to international recognition. He also livestreamed the festival and recorded all mock auditions. Today, he remains involved as a partner through The Percussion Conservatory, which hosts ITI’s live and archived content for members worldwide.
