About Benjamin


Benjamin Forster, born in the Bavarian town of Vilsbiburg, studied percussion in Munich at the Richard Strauss Conservatory and the University of Music. He was an academy member of the Munich Philharmonic and the Bavarian Orchestra Academy.

At a young age, he gained extensive orchestral experience through numerous substitute engagements with leading symphony orchestras and opera houses, collaborating with many renowned artists. After two years at the Zurich Opera House, Benjamin Forster was appointed Principal Timpanist of the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich.

From 2019 to 2021, he served as Principal Timpanist of the Berlin Philharmonic. He is currently Professor of Timpani at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). In addition to his orchestral career, Benjamin Forster is an active chamber musician, performing in a wide range of ensembles and musical styles.
